as it is, mcmlter.org became DEIMS, while we put the legacy into mcmlter.lternet.edu.
other sites were more or less preserved in their URLS, but their canonical hosts were moved away from crummy desktops into TEMPER.
What is to do here? Not much, but these are preliminary plans for the websites.
mcmlter.org, mcm.lternet.edu what would be the new identities?
Keep both for a while -- give all of us time to get use and benefit from the new site. If during the time of co-existance, a critical security bug pops-in (tomcat, etc) we phase out the old site. Otherwise we keep it until we feel comfortable.
What then? We can make "mcmlter.org" the new site. Route traffic from mcm.lternet.edu to mcmlter.org (like it was before). Or viceversa, in any case, not a big deal.
